The Pearl (Chapter 1)

Kino, a fisherman, lived in a small fishing village by the sea. He awoke to the sound of the waves on the beach. He was happy listening to the early morning sounds, which included the Song of the Family. Juana, his wife, prepared breakfast and sang to her baby, Coyotito.
After breakfast, both Kino and Juana saw a scorpion was moving slowly down the rope of the baby’s hanging box.
The song of Evil, a savage and dangerous melody and also the music of enemy, was playing in Kino’s mind. The scorpion fell into the box and stung Coyotito before he could kill it.
Juana sucked the poison from Coyotito’s shoulder. They then decided to take the baby to the doctor in town. All their neighbours followed as they wanted to know if the doctor will treat Coyotito.
